Only when he was 35 years old (1971), and nobody will never know how nor why, he entered at the Faculty of Arts, at the Univercidad Central del Ecuador in Quito, and sooner of which it was expected he left without a degree. He rejected all the academic impositions and the political presumptions of his classmates.

In 1974 he presented his essay,"Latin American Indigenous-Mestizo Art". It is in this essay where we will find the keys that later will appear in his work. Only until 1976 is when he shows his first works. It is hesitant, vacillating between a social critic and the beginig of tracking his ecuadorian roots.

From 1980, his work already had reached eminent qualities. Its Swiss Naif Painting Prize for the International of 1982 and its admission to the Group "Henry Rosseau", breaks with the tradition sustained in the decorative art and poke in the myths, lexicology, colorations and compositions that live in the memory of the people.
